The Minor in Statistical Science
The Statistical Science minor is designed to provide students in other disciplines with opportunities to extend their modeling and data analysis skills beyond introductory courses, to complement existing courses offered in other departments within their major, and to enhance such offerings to the benefit of students in terms of breadth of exposure to modern statistical thinking and computational statistical methods. The minor is flexible, so that students from most majors can find a path to the minor that serves their specific needs. Students can count one of STA 101, 102, 102B, 103, or 113 towards the minor. The pre-requisites are calculus I and II.
The specific courses for the minor are as follows.
Prerequisites: MTH 31 or MTH 31L or the equivalent. MTH 32 or MTH 32L or MTH 32X
Requirements : Five additional courses in statistical science at the 100-level or above, only one of which can be from STA 101, 102, 102B, 103, and 113. Economics 139 can be used in place of STA 121. At most two courses from other departments can be used for the minor, provided the courses are approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies as having sufficient statistical content above STA 121 not covered by existing STA courses, for example MTH 215 (Mathematical Finance) and Computer Science 226 (Mathematical Models for Systems Analysis I).
